Red Deer Regional Hospital (RDRH) is a Level 3 trauma centre that provides care for the most severe trauma patients. The facility offers a range of healthcare services, including a 24/7 emergency department. It supports patients throughout their healthcare journey—from laboratory and diagnostic imaging for initial diagnosis, through active treatment with various levels of care and pharmacy services, to rehabilitative services like physical and occupational therapy. RDRH serves patients of all ages and life stages, with obstetric and maternity services, pediatric care, and surgical suites. The Central Alberta Cancer Centre is housed within this facility.
The hospital serves as a training centre for multiple professions. The University of Alberta trains residents in their Rural Alberta North family medicine program and rotates medical students through elective placements. It's also a training site for pharmacy residents and nursing students from Red Deer Polytechnic.
A major expansion and redevelopment project is currently underway. It will add 200 new beds, six new operating rooms, two new cardiac catheterization labs, an enhanced medical device reprocessing department, a new central power plant, and an expanded parking lot. The project is expected to be completed by 2031.
The Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre's Ambulatory Annex houses bariatric medicine services. The South Complex provides kidney care, dialysis clinics, diabetes clinic, circumcision clinic, and intake services for rehabilitation and restorative care.
Community health centres throughout the area—including 49th Street, Bremner Ave, and Johnstone Crossing Community Health Centres—provide a variety of services: outpatient care, community health services, environmental health services, home care, immunizations, and educational programs (prenatal, perinatal, and parent-child programs). They also offer rehabilitative services including audiology, speech-language pathology, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.
